Learning by playing…
I babysat my grand-nieces aged 5 and 8 the other day and great fun was had by all. I gave them my iPhone and they made movies of each other dancing, singing and playing. They interviewed each other, I filmed them both together, they filmed each other separately…
I also showed them the Cartoonatic app and they figured out how to add special effects and music.
Today I received a text from their mom. The message was for me, but let me broadcast it to all parents and teachers out there…
Quote by Eliyah, aged 8: ” It was fun with Edna. We didn’t watch a movie. We made one instead”.
Skills practised: thinking, reading, communicating, cooperating, creating, presenting…
Is laughing a skill?

Laughing is an assessment.
Exactly! Thanks for pointing that out.
Laughing is a skill. Sometimes we forget to practice it.
love you Edna.
What a great experience for Eliyah and Nili (and for me, watching it)! Thank you. You must be an awesome teacher in the classroom because you can make learning so much fun.

P.S. I hope your mom is doing better.
Thanks Barbara. Now I want to show Eliyah how to edit the movies herself…
Actually, I will show her the program and a few basics and let her figure it out for herself!
The next thing is that she will “need” an iPhone……….for education purposes. Just look how much she has learnt in one “lesson”. Well done Edna.
This was a cute educational experience for them! I am studying to be a teacher at The University of South Alabama and am currently writing a blog, I was assigned to comment on your blog post and I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video! I have a 2 year old son and he loves taking pictures of himself and watching videos of our family as well. I will catch him going through the picture section on my iPod Touch and replaying the videos over and over(yes, amazingly he knows how to do this at the age of 2). I think laughing is definitely a learning skill, where would we be without laughter! I hope that I am able to make learning this much for for my own son as well as future students! Thank you for you post! I am posting a link to our blog for our EDM310 class below!
